I just talked to Dr Gundle - Erik's out, awake and doing fine in recovery!! He had two doctors working together, and that made it go so much faster and easier. The tumor was about as big as his head! He did have two incisions (front & back) and a couple blood transfusions, as they'd expected. He'll be in recovery for another 45 minutes or so, then he'll come up to his room and I can see him. He doesn't have to go to the ICU and if all goes well, they think he can probably go home much sooner than they originally thought - a few days instead of several. In a couple weeks they'll take another scan of his lungs, and if the nodules haven't grown, they'll do radiation on the pelvic bone where they couldn't get the margins they wanted during surgery. If they have grown, they'll start chemo, and fit radiation in when they can. For now he's doing great and his surgery recovery looks excellent!! I'm so happy!! And SO grateful to his doctors and to all of you!! I know it helped to have so much love coming his way! Thank you!
