Erik came to hospice last night. His doctors did every test while he was in the hospital, but didn't find any infection or anything that was treatable - the fevers, coughing, fluid build up, and difficulty breathing are just due to the malignancy. He had two procedures to drain the fluid, but the lung keeps refilling, and the cancer itself is growing too quickly to be controlled.
The hospice team is giving him medication to make breathing easier and to stop the cough for long periods. He can talk a little bit off and on, and is at least able to express his wishes. He's seen both his uncle and aunt who live in town, and his roommates are visiting this weekend with their dog (he's looking forward to that!) His dad and stepmom are out from Minnesota, his brother is staying longer - he has almost all his immediate family with him, and his Grandmas and out of town aunt are here in spirit!
He's so brave. This is so hard on him, and on all of us. We're truly grateful that you're all there lending support in so many ways. Love you all.
