Hospice is fantastic! Erik is so comfortable - they're managing his symptoms like magic! The pain is pretty much gone, his head is still mostly clear, and his breathing is much easier. He coughs much much less, and when he does, it's not horrible like before. He sleeps quite a bit, but every so often can come out to the common rooms and play games or hang out for a while. He was so happy to have time with his roommates and the dog last night, and both his grandmas and a dear family friend stopped by to visit today. Marge played some stride piano while we all had "happy hour"in front of the fire in the beautiful living room. He does get really drowsy, which is kind of funny some times - I've never actually seen someone fall asleep in the act of buttering a cracker before. They're doing such a good job that it's hard to remember his body is still declining so fast. They're going to put in a drain either tomorrow or Tuesday to try to keep the fluid level in his lung down.
We're taking it day by day, and are so grateful that he's not physically suffering the way he was, and that he has such wonderful caregivers, so much family, and so many friends who care. So much love back to you all!
